The draft starts out with Chad Ford pulling a Schefter and spoiling picks right before they happened.

Dear sports writers,

If you tell us the draft picks before they happen, there isn’t much of a reason to watch the draft on TV.  And if we just watch the draft on TV without going on Twitter, than my Twitter addiction kicks in and I want to claw my eyes out.  Cut the shit!

I recorded my first podcast last night and I think it came out pretty well.  On this episode, I give five NFL Over/Under picks for the 2014 season.  I have included the full list of Over/Unders in case you want to make some picks yourself. (more…)

Mashable-  According to a new report from the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), 10% of beaches in the U.S. contained bacterial levels that failed to meet the EPA’s most protective benchmark for swimmer safety in 2013. The report found that water pollution continues to be an issue at many U.S. beaches.

“Sewage and contaminated runoff in the water should never ruin a family beach trip,” said Jon Devine, the senior attorney for NRDC. “There can be hidden dangers in many of our favorite waterways.”

This is the 24th annual beach report from the NRDC, which used the EPA’s new “Beach Action Value” (BAV) to rate water quality. The EPA considers BAV to be a “precautionary benchmark” for making decisions about safety for beachgoers. BAV has a lower threshold for contamination than guidelines used in past years, both by the NRDC and by individual states and organizations testing water safety.

The values are provided to states so they can alert beachgoers. The states with the worst beach failure rate were Ohio, Alaska and Mississippi; Delaware, New Hampshire and New Jersey did the best.

What’s next, people who live in New Jersey are respectful and pleasant?  Chris Christie is anoerxic?  The George Washington Bridge isn’t the 9th circle of hell?  I can smell the bullshit from here, and it smells like the rest of New Jersey.  If Always Sunny’s portrayal of New Jersey is wrong, I don’t want to be right.

When a city only had one team, he merged them with a city in the other league with only one team. There were some pretty decent ones and some that just didn’t work. Here are my top 5 merged NBA and NFL logos: (more…)

Philadelphia fans have a rivalry with the rest of the country/world, but last night was pretty awesome.  When Tony Gwynn Jr. came up to bat, the entire crowd gave him a standing ovation after the passing of his legendary (and from all accounts extremely friendly) dad.  I may not like you Philly, but Goddamn it I respect you (for one night only).

Also, great work by the umpire and Saltalamacchia to clean the plate and have a meeting at the mound to let the ovation last longer.  Class acts for a fallen class act.  Good stuff

PS- This clip of Gwynn Jr. going back and forth with a fan a few years ago was pretty terrific.
