2. The Giants beat the Lions in Detroit at the end of last season, when the Giants had nothing to play for and Detroit needed just one win to make the playoffs.  I know that many of players and coaches have changed since that game.  But the nucleus of the Lions team that was not able to answer the bell is still there.

3. Other than last year’s abortion of a start, the Giants usually start out 6-2 or 5-3 during the Coughlin/Eli era.  Matt Stafford is a very good fantasy quarterback, but I have a hard time believing that he is going to be the guy that hands the Giants one of their two losses in the first eight games.  And yes, I have talked myself into the Giants starting 6-2 again this year.

Prediction: Giants 26 Lions 24.  Eli leads the Giants to a last-minute field goal and the Detroit faithful go back to their regularly scheduled program of sadness.  Long live the king.
