F you, Wal-Mart.  The last thing I needed after a close loss and another Melo hat was to see Jeremy Lin’s face laughing at me.  Linsanity was basically the polar opposite of the current state of Knicks basketball.  A bunch of straight up nerds (Lin, Landry Fields, and Steve Novak) winning games they had no business winning as The Garden completely ate it up.  Then we let Lin go for nothing and brought back Fatboy Ray Felton to run the point.

Fast forward to today and we have a team that isn’t even trying to tank losing every game in the most heartbreaking fashion possible.  And I understand that this was probably a mistake made by some Wal-Mart employee making $3 per hour.  But I would hope that Carmelo Anthony is a big enough name to know that he isn’t an Asian basketball player, let alone that his name is not Anthony Carmelo.  But this is just sad.

Carmelo Anthony

via reddit (duh)

So Alan Hahn did a reddit AMA a few weeks ago and I finally got around to checking it out. Hahn was peppered with questions about the 2015 Free Agency class because that’s what life is like for Knicks fans now. Here were his answers:

Nothing really groundbreaking, but I completely agree with Hahn’s take.  There is almost no chance that Durant comes to New York and plays in a crazy market with a dipshit owner.  The one X-Factor is that Phil is a great basketball mind that can probably talk up superstars better than any other executive in the league.  Pat Riley recruited LeBron James by talking about Michael Jordan and legacies.  Well Phil helped put those 6 rings on MJ’s hands (and vice versa, obviously).  Add in the 7 Phil won with the Knicks and Lakers, and you have to think that any player that wants to win titles will at least give the Zen Master a chance to plead his case.   There is already one superstar here in Melo, so if KD wants to come here, it wouldn’t be the craziest idea in the world.

But Durant strikes me as a guy who either stays loyal and re-signs with Oklahoma City or goes home like LeBron and plays for the Wizards.  Making Marc Gasol the priority is the best option and probably the best fit for the Knicks.  A team running Phil Jackson’s triangle offense with an elite scorer and a Gasol brother won the Lakers two championships.  Granted, there were also players like Ron Artest, Lamar Odom, Andrew Bynum, and Derek Fisher in the mix.  But getting one of the best centers in the league to pair with Melo would be a hell of a start to competing in the East with LeBron and the Cavs.

A few other “highlights” from the AMA:

hahnclyde

This has to be the all-time worst answer to the question “What is your best Clyde story?”.  Clyde Frazier was stylin’ and profilin’ in Paris, and the best story you have is that you walked around and took pictures?  What an absolute crock of horse shit.  I want to hear that Clyde and Hahn hit a dozen French brothels and partied like it was the 1973.  Unacceptable.

Rirruto10 comes in hot with that question and Hahn throws it right back in his face.  Rirruto is lucky that Hahn didn’t knock his block off for chirping at his “sisters” like that.  And for the record, homey is spelled H-O-M-E-Y.

A great question by Mommy_Fucked_Gandhi.  And Alan’s answer just ripped open a huge scab in my Knicks fan soul.  I am going to go stare out my window drink a fifth of vodka as I try to get 2-18 out of my head now.

ESPN-  The Miami Heat’s immediate focus remains overcoming a 2-1 NBA Finals deficit to the San Antonio Spurs, but discussions have begun within the organization about trying to grow their so-called Big Three into a Big Four, according to sources close to the situation.

Sources told ESPN.com that Heat officials and the team’s leading players have already started to explore their options for creating sufficient financial flexibility to make an ambitious run at adding New York Knicks scoring machine Carmelo Anthony this summer in free agency.

The mere concept would require the star trio of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh to all opt out of their current contracts by the end of the month and likely take further salary reductions in new deals that start next season to give Miami the ability to offer Anthony a representative first-year salary. The Heat also are prevented from making any formal contact with Anthony until July 1 and can do so then only if he opts out of the final year of his current contract. Anthony has until June 23 to notify the Knicks of his intentions, according to sources.

Being tortured by the most famous and beloved player in NBA history in my youth?  A huge bummer.

Watching my favorite team lose some of the most painful games when sports still meant a little too much?  That was tough.

Seeing my team bottom out the last 10 years, pin its hopes to signing the best player since MJ, and then seeing that player go to an arch-rival and win multiple championships?  Almost bad enough to just give up all together.

But THIS would be rock bottom.  Seeing my favorite team acquire my favorite player in college basketball history and then have him abandon the team to join LeBron and the EVIL Pat Riley down in Miami.  Sooner or later you just have to ask yourself “is it all worth it”?  Pat Riley truly is The Devil.

Or at least Derek from Step Brothers.  Pure evil.  That seems like a fair comparison.

PS- Just like Steve Kerr, if Melo doesn’t want to be in NYC, then beat it.  You have to WANT to be in New York to win in New York.  If you don’t have “it” in you, then we don’t want you here.

PSS- Please don’t go, Melo.  I’m sorry.
