The Telegraph- HBO are remastering the entire series of The Wire for broadcast, it is believed.

Despite no official statement from the American cable channel, reports suggest that HD versions of every episode will be aired on a nightly basis from next Monday (September 8).

The iconic series ran for five seasons from 2002 to 2008 and offered a bird’s eye view of life on the streets of Baltimore, with each season focusing on a different facet of the city.

The series starred British actors Dominic West as Detective Jimmy McNulty and Idris Elba as Stringer Bell. Despite receiving average ratings upon its original airing, The Wire is considered to be one of the greatest TV dramas of all time.

Rumours of the rebroadcast began surfacing at the weekend when a 30-second trailer reportedly began airing across HBO’s channels.

HELL.  YES.  I love Game of Thrones.  Breaking Bad will forever have a special place in my heart.  The Sopranos was great.  But when you boil it all down, The Wire is the best show of all-time.  It is to TV what Calvin Johnson is to fantasy wide receivers; a cut above everything else.  Now a new generation of white Americans can try to relate to the urban struggles through a TV show.  HBO is doing God’s work here.

Now this is the part of the blog where I annoy you and ramble on about how you HAVE to watch The Wire if you haven’t already done so.  Just trust me on this.  I usually say watch the first four episodes and you will be hooked.  But instead I am going to say watch the entire first season.  If you don’t like it, you get your money back for this post.

PS- That 30-second teaser made it move.  6-to-midnight. <insert another veiled boner joke here>.  Just hearing some of the classic lines has me all fired up.  Holy shit I am excited for this show to come back into my life.

I came across these gems yesterday at a 5 Below and obviously had to pick up a pack.  There aren’t many marriages better than baseball cards and Game of Thrones.

ESPN- The Atlanta Falcons will be featured on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” during training camp, the team announced Thursday. “We are excited about the opportunity to give our fans a behind the scenes look at what it takes to prepare an NFL team for the rigors of a 16-game regular season and beyond,” Falcons owner and chairman Arthur M. Blank said. “This marks the first time that our franchise will be featured on ‘Hard Knocks’ and we look forward to showcasing our great players and coaches to football fans all across America.”

It is somewhat of a surprising move, considering coach Mike Smith typically wants to avoid added distractions. But Smith obviously saw the benefit in such a documentary. “We are looking forward to connecting with our fans across the country as the program chronicles our 2014 training camp,” Smith said. “The series will give fans a behind the scenes look at the competition between players as we build our roster and prepare for the season. We are looking forward to the start of camp in late July.”

Training camp will include a number of intriguing storylines, including the return of Julio Jones from season-ending foot surgery, the beginning of Jake Matthews’ NFL career as the new starting right tackle and the switch to a 3-4 base defense with the additions of nose tackle Paul Soliai and defensive end Tyson Jackson up front.

The best reality show on TV finally has a location.  We are heading to the dirty, dirty.  It’s Hotlanta time!  A quick breakdown of what we can expect from Hard Knocks: Atlanta Falcons.

1. Personality of Owner/GM/Coaches: B  Arthur Blank definitely seems like he could be a wacky millionaire in private.  The dude helped build the Home Depot empire and people in Home Depot are always characters.  Thomas Dimitrioff is a young GM, but also from the Bill Belichick school, which means he will probably be secretive and weird as hell.  Mike Smith seems like a coach you could get a beer with after the game and acts like the Snickers coach after he eats his Snickers.

2. Personality of Players: C-  Looking at the roster, it’s a pretty quiet group of NFL players (at least from what I can tell).  Matt Ryan is one of the most boring young quarterbacks in the NFL.  Roddy White is an “Indian Giving Bettor”.  And Osi Umenyiora will probably just bitch about his contract, playing time, or both while flashing that million dollar smile.  Definitely not like having Ochocinco or Antonio Cromartie running around like madmen.

3. Players wives and girlfriends: D  Maybe the most important thing when it’s all said and done.  Usually the number 1 pick has some sort of a smokeshow wife that turns the internet upside down.  The Falcons number 1 pick this year was offensive lineman Jake Matthews.  A quick Google search does not give us any idea what his wife looks like, which probably isn’t the best omen in the world.

Matt Ryan’s wife was born Sarah Marshall, which while funny, but doesn’t do much for the viewer.

So it looks like we are going to have a pretty lackluster Hard Knocks this year.  The only thing that could save this show is the Falcons re-signing Tony Gonzalez.  And this has nothing to do with Tony G’s game or personality.  It is thanks to….OCTOBER GONZALEZ!

Overall Grade For Falcons On Hard Knocks: C-

You know the rules by now.  You have $15 to pick 5 Game of Thrones characters.  I am not sure if this game has already jumped the shark, but anything Thrones related is always fun for me.  For the sake of making it somewhat fair, you don’t get Daenerys’ dragons if you buy her, or Ghost if you buy Jon Snow.

Let us know your picks in the comments below.

Two of the best things on TV from the last year (True Detective and the AT&T kids commercials) combined into one glorious Youtube video.  I respect the crushing of the juice box, too. Nothing like shocking the hell out of kids and having them stare at you like you are crazy.  God damn, when does this show come back on TV?

With all the excitement and discussion over the True Detective season finale, some people overlooked the fact that HBO released another trailer for the fourth season of Game of Thrones.  Granted, a lot of this footage has already been seen in one preview or another, but it still does the job of getting me HYPED.  I really don’t have much to add here other than Emilia Clarke really looks awesome as a blonde and I hope Sansa gets the F out of King’s Landing at some point this season.

Like Marty says “The solution my whole life was right under my nose”.  I am still somewhat skeptical of this theory, mainly due to the fact that the king’s crown is paper and the color is not TRULY yellow.  But still, this is the best theory I have seen served up yet.  God I can’t wait until Sunday night.

Yesterday, the wonderful people at HBO released a 15 minute video previewing the next Game of Thrones season.  Here are some quick hits from that glorious piece of Youtube heaven.  FYI, I have not read any of the books and do not intend to until the television series is over.

  • First off, whoa.  That was a lot to digest and kudos to HBO for making such a long, detailed teaser for the fourth season.  The show is hyped enough as is, so this felt like a nice treat for all of the GoT diehards out there.
  • We learn right off the bat that some of this season will deal with revenge for the horrifying actions of the Red Wedding.  Since I am a huge fan of the Stark family, it excites me that their story won’t fade away much.
  • It also appears that our boy Tyrion is going to be in some serious danger from the jump.  Since Peter Dinklage plays the most entertaining character in the series, especially when he is trying to outsmart his enemies, this should lead to a lot of fun.  The sibling rivalry between him and Cersei will probably be more vicious than ever.
  • I do not know who this Oberyn Martell character is, but anyone who hates the Lannisters is cool with me.  He seems like a Mack with the ladies and a hell of a fighter.  The “hand over the candle flame” move is legitimately bad ass.
  • Hearing Emilia Clarke’s British accent trying to politely say that Joffrey the character is an asshole is cuter than a litter of puppies.
  • I feel like Arya is going to start becoming a killing machine this year.  The team of her and the hound have some serious comedic potential ahead of them as well.
  • It seems as if the tide of popular opinion will continue to sway towards Jamie Lannister this season.  When we met him in Season 1, he seemed like an entitled and arrogant prick.  But upon further review, his character is one of the more layered and fascinating ones in the series.
  • Speaking of Jamie, it should be a blast watching him and Tyrion back together.  Those two characters and actors showed chemistry during their brief time together in the first season.  I hope to see more of the same going forward.
  • I have never been one to really notice how great the scenery and set design is in television shows.  But Game of Thrones changed all of that.  You truly feel like you are in a different world for that hour or so after the best opening credits in TV.
  • On that note, the Royal Wedding should be a masterpiece visually.  And I say that as someone who haaaates Joffrey.  But the setting looks great.
  • Natalie Dormer (the actress who plays Margaery Tyrell) is a straight up smoke show.  Nothing else to add, just thought I should mention that.
  • It looks like we will again have to wait a while before we see Khaleesi sail to Westeros.  I guess she still has business to take care of on the other side of the pond.  It’s a bummer, but I’m sure there is a reason for George RR Martin’s madness.
  • Dragons.  DRAGONS!  DRAGONS!!!  While I am sure the dragons will not get a ton of air time due to the tremendous expense it costs to make them, I do think they will have more of a presence this season.
  • The Jon Snow story started to get interesting at the end of Season 3, but it looks like we are back to the same old boring crap again.  Add in my least favorite character in the show (Sam), and I am going into this season with low expectations for the scenes near The Wall.  However, this show often zigs when you think it will zag.
  • The actress who plays Brienne sometimes seems to have a little bit of Hordor in her voice when she speaks.  Definitely reminiscent of an old Billy Madison favorite.
  • Bran is smack dab in the middle of his awkward years right now.  Poor kid.  It’s hard enough to go through that when you aren’t on the biggest show on television.  Hopefully his storyline picks up this season as well.
  • The actress who plays Arya seems to be funny and goofy in real life.  It is very cool to see the actors outside of the realm of this heavy, dramatic show occasionally.  Her Youtube reaction to the Red Wedding was awesome.
  • Even though he is only on screen for a short time in the above trailer, I am reminded how much I like Bronn.  He has a witty line for almost every occasion and plays real well off of Tyrion’s character.  I hope we see more and more of him.
  • Listing the saddest deaths of the series is basically the same thing as reading the Stark Family Tree.  This meme describes my feelings the best about this phenomenon.
  • Seeing that dragon in the last frame of the video definitely got more than a few fanboys to sit up in their seats.  Now the obsession can start again for the next (almost) two months.
